Christian Eckert
Jazz guitar und
sound artificer Christian Eckert was named one of the ten most talented
young guitarists on the international jazz-scene by the magazine "
Jazz thing ", along with colleagues such as Mark Whitfield, Kurt
Rosenwinkel or Peter Bernstein. Being grown-up indirect contakt within
the APO (the extra-parliamentary opposition political movement) in
Frankfurt/Germany (e.g. Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Joschka Fischer), he moved
1990 to the Netherlands, to study jazz guitar at the Hilversums Conservatory
and at the CHK-Conservatory in Zwolle. In 1992 he was granted a scholarship
to continue his studies at the ”New School” in New York. There he
studied with Jim Hall, Hal Galper, John Abercrombie and Peter Bernstein.
In addition to performances with the Dizzy Gillespie pianist Ray Bryant,
he also appeared regularly in performances and sessions in Manhattan
jazz clubs. The guitarist completed his studies in the Netherlands
in 1995 with a Master’s Degree.
1995 after a long
sojourn abroad, he moved back to Germany to work as a free-lance musician
with his own band, in a trio with the New York organ-player Garry
Versace and drummer Matthew Jorgensen, in an electronica projekt Sapporo
with the dutch keyboarder Jasper van´t Hof as well as in his acoustic
quartet „fritz & gans“ and „4 nach 12“ with Steffen Weber on sax.
Besides playing the guitar, he got deeply involved in electronic music,
what puts Eckert on another level of improvising music and life.
This workshop is a mixture between
jazz guitar and composition lessons. The main issue is not being the
fastest guitar player, but the origin of arts. You´ll improve your instrumental
forms of expression, such as voicings, legato technique and sound, as
well as styles of composition. At the end there will be a concert, where
every participian will present his composition. This event will be recorded,
so every member of the class can recall things he worked on.
This week will be completed by two
excursions to explore the historical and artistical richness of the
area. Playing an instrument and composing is more than a craft. Every
musician and composer needs inspiration and the area of Ürkmez/Seferihisar
near Izmir at the Ägäis is a great input.
